Sleep complaints are a major burden
for aged, disabled, children and working adults. Their negative
impact upon mental, psychological and body functions and their repercussions
upon the quality of individual daily life justify the efforts in
sleep medicine, education and training.
ENN-ICS- European Neurologic Network
- Interactive Communication System, is an e-health project integrating
advanced e-learning and e-publishing technologies with the goal
to offer a new multilingual, regional and multinational service
in the field of Sleep disorders.
The overall objectives of ENN-ICS are:
- To create an EU wide training network
of doctors, nurses and students dealing with neurological topics
-in particular in the field of Sleep Disorders- through:
- Practical IST and communication solutions
based on the optimisation of scientific contents and data
(content and knowledge management), while offering e-learning
services.
- An international doctor-to-doctor net, providing
direct individual training and advice to GPs and other professionals;
- e-Learning dedicated services.
- To provide practical support to one third of
European citizens via direct, on line and on demand personalized
information and orientation.
- To decrease the high medical and societal costs
improving sleep in the European population, with visible repercussions
on health care budget and society well being.
- To support less privileged populations
through patient associations and NGOs, therefore enhancing social
cohesion.
The ENN-ICS Centre, based on an internet
communication system, includes integrated content management,
e-publishing and e-learning facilities, distributed qualification
processes in virtual classrooms, interactive websites and a sales
distribution centre for DVDs/CDs and printed material. With these
facilities the ENN-ICS centre will be able to provide on-line
support, regional recommendations and directives, data collection
for economic and epidemiological surveys, decision support, clinical
and scientific information, multiple media publishing, e-learning
and e-training for different target groups, quality assurance
and network promotion.
